Activities of the Athens Association of Commercial Agents & Brokers
The “Athens Association of Commercial Agents & Brokers” (AACAB) pioneered the adoption of Law 2765/1941, which defined the conditions for authorization Trade Agent, and in shaping the Presidential Decree (PD) No 219/1991 «Presidential Decree 219/1991 on Commercial Agents for the coordination of the Directive 86/635/EEC of the Council of the European Community» [Council Directive 86/653/EEC of 18 December 1986 on the coordination of the laws of the Member States relating to self-employed commercial agents], as amended and supplemented by PD No 249/93, PD No 88/94, PD No 312/95 and Law 3557/2007.
In primary concern and to ensure the rights and promote the interests of its members, the election, securing and developing the profession of the commercial agent on a sound and healthy basis, the “Athens Association of Commercial Agents & Brokers” (AACAB) has constant contact with government services , state agencies and institutions as well as commercial and professional chambers.
For this purposes the AACAB:
* Participates in Board of Directors (BoD) of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), with 7 members. The President John Papageorgakis, the Secretary Alkis Eliades, the members of the Board Demetrius Karamalakos, George Leousis, Panagiotis and Mark Panettas and a member of the Association Dionysios Sotiropoulos. Mr Papageorgakis is President in the Department of Foreign Trade of the ACCI for Belgium, (South) Korea, Thailand and Taiwan. Mr Markos Panettas is President in the Department of Foreign Trade of the ACCI for Spain and Israel. Mr Leoussis is President in the Department of Foreign Trade of the ACCI for China, Uruguay and Paraguay. Also a member of the AACA Mr Dionysios Sotiropoulos is President in the Department of Foreign Trade of the ACCI for Indonesia and Poland. Mr Papageorgakis is a member of the Board of Workers' Housing Organization (WHO) and participates in the following committees: Local Tourism-Trade Commission of Athens, Athens Court Secondary Commission, Commission of XV Tax Office of Athens. Mr Iliadis is Vice President of the Hellenic-African Chamber of Commerce and Development (HACC) and a member of the Board of Panhellenic Exporters Association [PEA]. Mr Karamalakos is President of Federation of Independent Commercial Agents Association in Greece (FICAA) and member of the Board of Insurance Organization for Self-Employed Professionals (IOSEP). Mr Leoussis is a member of the Board of the Greek-Turkish Chamber of Commerce. Mr Markos Panettas is Chairman of the Board of Trade Association Kifissia.
* Participates in the Board of the Athens Chamber of Small Industry (ACSI) with the member of the Association Ms Fylitsa Pagouropoulou and Treasurer of the Association Christos Tsoutsouva.
* Participates in the Board of the Federation of Independent Commercial Agents Association (FICAA), which is a founding member, with 4 members: Mr Dimitrios Karamalakos as President of FICAA, Mr Alkis Eliadis as General Secretary, Mr Christos Tsoutsouvas as Treasurer and Mr. Constantinos Anagnostou as a board member of FICAA. Through the Federation participates and is represented in the National Confederation of Greek Commerce (NCGC) with three representatives - Mr. Papageorgakis, Karamalakos and Leousis - and the International Union of Commercial Agents and Brokers (IUCAB) with the Secretary General Mr Eliades.
* Participates in the organization of domestic and international conferences for commercial agents. Also involved in the Thessaloniki International Fair for the “Commercial Agent Day”.
* Works closely with the major commercial and industrial organizations (Panhellenic Exporters Association [PEA], Association of SA & LTD Companies, etc.).
* Spoke regularly by the President and members of the Board on the problems arising in trade with statements in the daily press and representations to the relevant bodies.
* Organize workshops and meetings to educate and inform its members on the professional rights and responsibility in the exercise of their profession under the Greek and international law. Holds an annual General Assembly which is in administrative and financial statement for the previous year. The Assembly members have the opportunity to exchange views and opinions on issues that concern them.
* Organize training programs in cooperation with Professional Training Institute “AKMH” for training and retraining of staff members of enterprises, thus continuing the tradition of the School of Commercial Agemts, which from 1962 to 1991 provide special education and training for aspiring to the profession of commercial agents to import and export. Emphasized that the students of these courses do not pay fees but participants are subsidized by 5 euros per hour.
* Publishes twice a month Electronic Newsletter informing members on current activities of the Association, legislation and case law on commercial agents, domestic and international developments in resolving major issues, and expresses his views on the issues afflicting the Greek economy.
* Operates this site (www.aaca.gr) through which the parties have timely and direct information and access to information on the Association and its members (Conferences and Exhibitions in Greece and abroad, international cooperation, Events, Meetings, Legislation, etc.).
